First of all, thanks for this
article.

Stumbleupon has been one
of my favorite sites for the
past year.

Stumbling random content
on the web quickly and easily
really appeals to me.

I would really like to know how
to get the most out of posting on
it.

I'm trying to develop a strategy to
promote Earthday Birthday, but I
just can't seem to figure out how
to get traction.

What do you suggest?

Compared to Digg, I’ve read that SU generates more long-term traffic whereas with Digg you can get 10000s of visitors one day, but that’s it. With SU, they tend to come back again and again.

This traffic actually doesn’t give us any goal conversions, not even newsletter signups, but it works well for our PR, so I think it’s no harm to try to get even more of this.

There is no point in us submitting stuff to SU or Digg, as we don’t have any friends in our profiles – so we need to be lucky to be reviewed by somebody else, who is more influential on these sites.

One of our blog posts got "StumbledUpon" and next Mixx, Propellor, etc.
This created about 1,000 additional visits upon our website.

1) Copy: Once you get bookmarked and become 'popular', people can't wait to bookmark the same post on another website.
2) People only visit the blog post and read no further
3) After wards people use the blog post in other "best of the week" posts.

Result:
Did it bring eyeballs: yes
Did it bring branding: probably
Did it bring revenue: No
