Splendidly said and true, provide more promote less. That's the mantra we all should be looking to follow in 2009.

Aw, don't be too hard on yourself buddy.

I try to be careful about who I friend. 2,000 friends looks more like promiscuity to me than popularity. I broke down on FaceBook because I feel bad not friending old High School buddies. But on LinkedIn I only connect with people I would do business with or feel good about referring.

There's lots of noise right now, but as in every industry there will be a shake out and only the best will have an audience. Content is still King. Bookmarks, links and RSS are worthless without there being something worth sharing.

You are on the right path so keep doin' what yer doin'.

Amen! If I see one person tweet, "I need 10 more followers to reach 2,000 (or 5,000 or 40,000). Anyone help?" I'm going to jab my eyes out. Let's have more reader-focus and less self-focus.

A wonderfully written piece and noble intent. It is tough not to get caught up in it all. I hit "doesn't matter #" of followers and intentionally didn't say a word about it the other day. It just didn't seem relevant.

To be honest, in my case, I am not really sure I am doing this for followers anyway. I am tweeting to have a voice out there and share my experiences personal and professional. If people find it entertaining and useful, so much the better.
