    DJ,

    To answer your question: sorta.

It comes down to what you mean by being a “good writer.” Does that mean you know the AP Style Book by heart or does it mean you are a creative thinker who expresses themselves clearly?

A lot of people in PR comes from a journalism background which theoretically makes them a good writer, but does that make them a strong asset in today’s world of PR? One could argue that a person’s ability to sell and network is far more important in this super connected world we now live in. The good writing just prevents you from looking bad.

    Hmm, good points, Len.

I was going more for the creative thinker who can then articulate it on paper/screen. Since what, 95% of the web is text and PR is being centered more and more in the online space, it seems that great writing is only getting more important.

Journalism isn’t my ballywick, but are you saying that the difference is that journalism seeks to report the facts, where PR/marketing seek to persuade? Personally, I come from a modern literature and politics background, so…I don’t know :)
